Feeling creative? Love to build? We’re inviting preschoolers into our Design Lab and Pre-K classroom for a morning of designing, building and fun! Our beloved kindergarten teacher, Alison Morrow, will help us create and play! Program is for 3 to 5 year olds and is free of charge. RSVP requested but not necessary.

The Jewish Community Day School invites you to a very special Hanukkah celebration. We’re putting the miracle back in Hanukkah with a Mitzvah-filled party! Social action activities, volunteer opportunities, $1 glitter tattoos for a cause, Hanukkah songs, food and more! Requested donation at the door is $5 and please bring a package of disposable diapers to support our diaper drive (see flyer for more details).

Shalom Friends is a weekly Jewish music and movement class for children from birth to 5 years of age along with their families/caregivers. No prior Jewish background or knowledge is required. Class will be held the following Fridays from 9:30 – 10:30am in the school library: December 2, 9, 16 and January 6, 13. Register.
Global Cardboard Challenge, 2016, November 23rd at 10:00am
Just build it! That was the theme of the day for dozens of children and parents who dropped in for some creative building at the JCDSRI Global Cardboard Challenge. Inspired by Caine’s Arcade, this fun annual event encourages children to design and build with cardboard and recycled material. It’s a community play-date that unleashes your child’s imagination!
Zimriyah, May 26th at 6:00pm – Join us for our annual Hebrew song fest in the Meeting House at Temple Emanu-El. All of our students will perform in this interactive, enjoyable production!
“Most Likely to Succeed” Film Screening, February 25th at 7:30pm at the Dwares JCC – Our educational system, which was developed at the dawn of the Industrial Age to train obedient workers, has changed little since, despite radical changes in the marketplace wrought by technology and the outsourcing of labor. “Most Likely to Succeed” explores a different model of education, inspiring audiences with a sense of purpose and possibility. Directed by acclaimed documentarian Greg Whiteley, the film has been an official selection at film festivals like Sundance, AFI, and Tribeca. The 90-minute film will be followed by a short discussion. This event is free and open to the public!

Science & Young Children – We are thrilled to host a talk on January 27th at 7:30pm by Laurence Humier of Design Without Borders. Ms. Humier,a Belgian architect and designer who lives in Milan, has works in the MOMA permanent collection, and in 2015, she was honored with the title of Knight of Merit Walloon by the Belgian government. She will discuss the questions, “How can science be useful for young children? How do they use their knowledge inside a game?” The talk will be held at Temple Emanu-El in the Sisterhood Lounge.
Sunday Fun Days – Shake off those winter doldrums and come play with us! Bring your children ages 3 – 5 for one or all of these free mornings of fun, hands-on activities. Three Sunday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30am: January 24th – Design & Build; February 7th – Music & Rhythm; February 21st – Yoga & Movement. All are welcome; RSVP encouraged, but not required.
Mitzvahs & Miracles – We are pleased to co-host this event, planned by two of our alumni, Annabelle Doyle and Reese Sock. Items are being collected at our school for children entering the foster care system through Aubin Child Protection Center (New backpacks, pajamas, toothpaste, toothbrushes and stuffed animals). The party will be held at the JCC on December 9th from 4:00 – 6:00pm; donation is $5 plus a can of tuna.
Hanukkah Hurly Burly – Please join us for our Hanukkah Hurly Burly on December 6th from 10:30 – 11:30am. This celebration is designed specifically for 3 – 5 year olds and will include hands-on activities, music, dancing and holiday treats. All activities are facilitated by our fabulous teachers.
Book Fair – Join us at the Warwick Barnes & Noble on Sunday, November 22nd for a day full of fun to benefit the school! There will be an Art Show featuring the work of our students, storytime with Head of School Adam Tilove, a Book Making Workshop with librarian Michele Mericle, a Drumming Performance by our Percussion Club, a Rhythm Workshop with music teacher Mike Murdock, and Hanukkah Stories and Hebrew Story Time with teacher Rotem Goldshmid. Barnes & Noble Maker Faire – We are pleased to be the only elementary school invited to participate in this community event happening on November 6th at the Warwick Barnes & Noble store!
Pastrami on Rye – Author talk and booksigning by Ted Merwin, Dickinson professor and author of Pastrami on Rye: An Overstuffed History of the Jewish Deli, on October 27th at 7:00pm. More information and registration here.
Global Cardboard Challenge – Join us for our Global Cardboard Challenge on Sunday, October 18th from 10am – 1pm. Inspired by Caine’s Arcade, we welcome families with children ages 6 – 12 for this event that will foster creative play and stimulate your child’s imagination. Drop in anytime!
