Dear JCDSRI Families,
Welcome to the 2007-08 school year. I hope you have been enjoying
your summer. I want to extend a warm welcome back to the students
and families returning to JCDS and am also looking forward to
meeting all the new students and families. There are always feelings
of excitement and anxiety with the start of a new school year. The
Lower School staff is dedicated to making this a very successful
school year for everyone.
I am looking forward to my new position as the Lower School
Coordinator. I will be enforcing the day-to-day rules and guidelines
of the students in Grades PK through Five. My responsibilities will
also include coordinating events for the school which may include
field trips, special programs and assemblies. Each week I will be
meeting with every Lower School faculty member to review and plan
the General Studies curriculum for each grade level.
This summer the Lower School General Studies staff has been
diligently working on the math curriculum with our new Curriculum
Coach, Lucille Andolfo. We have looked at the Mathematics Scope and
Sequence for grades K-5 and compared them to the Rhode Island
Curriculum Framework Standards/GLE’s. We will continue over the
course of the year to develop and finalize skills check lists as
well as determine exit competencies/benchmarks for each grade level.
We will also develop effective and appropriate student assessment
tools.
I look forward to working with every family to ensure the success
of your child. Please feel free to call, email, or stop by with any
questions, comments, or concerns. Enjoy the remainder of the summer!
Respectfully,
Nicole Dunn
Lower School Coordinator
