Dear JCDSRI Families,
Summer is the season for the pursuit of the “3 R’s”: Rest,
Recreation, & Rejuvenation! For the Jewish Studies team, it has also
been a time of planning and preparation. Major highlights include:
-
The implementation of Tal Am in 1st grade
-
Assignment of Geveret Eskovitz, as both the Jewish Studies-Lashon
teacher for Kindergarten & 1st grade
-
Continuing this pattern with Morah Adler teaching 2nd & 3rd
* grades (Jewish Studies).
-
New approaches to school assemblies
-
New Milestones themes in grades 3 and 5 (more information
will follow)
-
New Jewish Studies subjects for Middle School in 6th grade
Chumash, 8th grade Talmud & the addition of Modern Israel Topics
in 8th grade.
My month of July was spent at the Jewish Theological Seminary in
New York, in a program called the Day School Leadership Training
Institute (DSLTI). Through an introduction to the latest
literature on school leadership, and a sophisticated combination of
workshops on team building and school culture, I was able to acquire
new skills and a peer network that I will count on in my efforts to
facilitate the JCDSRI Jewish Studies experience for our students and
faculty. In addition, this two year program includes the assignment
of a mentor, who is a widely acknowledged and accomplished leader in
the Jewish Day School world. My mentor is Mrs. Jane Taubenfeld
Cohen, who is the Head of School in the South Area Solomon Schechter
School outside of Boston. I look forward to working closely with
Jane this year, as a key component of my professional development as
a JCDSRI educator.
The Judaic Studies faculty team plus Ruti Adler, Hebrew Language
Facilitator, and I look forward to welcoming back the students for a
year filled with learning and celebration. Have a fantastic rest of
the summer!
B’vracha,
Mitchell Levine
Director of Judaic Studies
