Meeting Re-Cap

The Committee met on 3/12 and addressed the following:

Committee Composition – include parents.

Action: Alex Kaufman working with Dani and Meredith to contact parents who have indicated an interest in participating. The only stipulation placed on ALL members of this committee is that they must come with an open mind, a willingness to participate, and evaluate all issues objectively with the overall interests of the entire Jewish community at large. COMPLETED. Below is a contact list of committee members.

Reviewed Committee charter.

NOTE: Copy of Charter and Tasks attached. This Committee is NOT charged, at this time, with the review or development of the physical school, only an assessment of location.

The following decisions were reached / status:

  • Set up a meeting with the architects (RGB) at Tamarisk…. Review the grounds and the plans… open, to be determined.

  • Meet with Federation Facility Committee representative to review charter, approach and communicate activities. (This activity will be on-going to assure that there is a good communications loop with no duplication of effort).

Results: Meeting was held with Bruce Wolpert. We agreed to develop a list of formal activities that our committee will undertake and a time line for completion.

The following actions need to take place AND is the agenda for our next meeting:

Communications Plan

Develop a means of communicating with JCDS parents, potential JCDS parents of our activities. Community plan should/could include:

Shavuon, Web Site, Open Forums, Jewish Herald, etc.

Status: Need a volunteer who head this effort.

Demographics Review

Determine geographic location of potential future students. (Joe Mann / Alan Harlem).

Status: Initial plan, and current status, to be outlined and reviewed at our next meeting.

Site Evaluation Criteria – Pros / Cons.

We need to develop a “screen” to use for objective and comprehensive comparisons. I am envisioning categories and respective sub-categories i.e. zoning, facility operational costs, proximity to students’ residence, physical configuration possibilities/limitations, safety, etc. as selection criterion. For each category there may be several sub-categories.

Homework

This is a committee effort with full participation. I would like each member of the committee to develop as detailed a list as you can of what categories (and sub-categories) need to be considered and e-mail it to me. I will consolidate this list for review at our next meeting.

Facility Accommodation Options

Identify and evaluate attendance facilitation for each location i.e. bussing, feeder school concept.
If We build It, Will They Come? On-line survey of parents of JCDS and potential parents of students. (Alan Harlam). Develop questionnaire, data analysis selection criteria, tabulation. Will need some volunteers.

Focus Groups

Do we need them? What do we want to learn? When? Open discussion

Community Impact

Address the impact to the overall Jewish community (pros and cons) of each facility. Requires further discussion.
