From
soccer games to knitting and photography,
extracurricular activities are an important
part of student life at JCDSRI. We encourage
our students to express their personalities
and interests through their extracurricular
experiences.
The
After School Program offers several
clubs such as Book Buddies, American Girls,
Israeli Dancing, Photography, and Study
Skills. Seventy percent of our Middle School
students participate in our Athletic
Program that features soccer,
basketball, and baseball.
Community Service is integrated
throughout the grades. For Thanksgiving the
students collect tzedakah for the Rhode
Island Community Food Bank. At Hannukah,
Grade two performs for the residents of
Tamarisk Assisted Living. Middle school
students often participate in special
projects in honor of their Bar or Bat
Mitzvahs. Several students raised $3000.00
for KickAIDS, with a US-based awareness and
fundraising campaign, Grassroot Soccer.
Because of our successful participation in
their Good Deeds Program, we are a
Feinstein Leader School.
We are
proud to part of the Open School Program
created by Wellesley College. The Open
Circle Curriculum promotes the teaching
of social competency skills in a cooperative
classroom environment. This program supports
our commitment to derekh eretz (respect and
decency) in all interactions.
Middle
School students belong to small advisory
groups that provide individual and group
assistance. Middle School also has an
elective program featuring the arts, the
Student Leadership Council, and the annual
yearbook. Last year the MS Arts elective
performed a production of Fiddler on the
Roof.
Our school
offers special trips and is
especially proud to announce that last May
our 8th Grade visited Israel. Please check
out our
Israeli Trip blog. Other trips include
an overnight at the Boston Museum of
Science, environmental and group-building
camping trips at Camp Teva in Connecticut
and University of Rhode Island Alton Jones
Campus in Rhode Island, and the annual trip
to New York and Washington for Grade 7.
