Dear JCDS Parents and Friends,

I hope that you enjoyed the 4th of July holiday weekend and that your summer is going well.

There is some exciting news regarding the JCDS Judaic Studies that I would like to share with you.

•  Rabbi Alvan Kaunfer will be joining our JCDS team and will be the Director of Judaic Studies. Rabbi Kaunfer’s knowledge and experience have long provided our school with the educational leadership and guidance that have fostered an environment that exhibits Jewish values and educational excellence.
   

• Assisting Rabbi Kaunfer will be his wife Marcia Kaunfer, who will mentor certain of our Judaic Studies teaching staff as well as continue to work on the ever-popular “Beatle Torah”, our traditional fourth grade play.. Marcia is a nationally acclaimed Jewish educator and has been an incredible resource to our school over the years.
   

• Ruti Adler will be returning as our Hebrew language coordinator. Ruti has been the consummate Hebrew educator in our community and we welcome her back.

Our dedicated team of Judaic Studies professionals will work closely with Bob Sarkisian, our new Head of School. Bob is already hard at work to get the school ready for the 2008-2009 academic year. Bob is looking forward to meeting each of you. Please feel free to contact Bob at the school so you can make arrangements to meet him, if you haven’t already done so.

We will be making additional announcements as we finalize various arrangements. On behalf of the JCDS Board of Trustees, I would like to thank Alvan, Marcia and Ruti for their continued commitment to our community, our school and our children.

We will continue to keep you informed of our progress throughout the summer months and look forward to welcoming our students in September. To all of our parents, children and friends, we wish you a safe and happy summer.
